Why vegan food is good for dogs (and everyone else)

If you’ve considered (or perhaps even adopted) a vegan lifestyle, you’re likely an animal lover. Whether it’s seeing a face like Grumpy Cat’s or hearing the inspiring story of Esther the Wonder Pig, many of us can also pinpoint a moment that solidified our status as animal lovers.
In my case, it was when my family adopted a rescued racing greyhound that my love for animals turned into a need to advocate for them. Learning about Zolo’s history on the track changed something in me - I realized at a young age that animals can’t speak for themselves.
When our love for non-human animals turns into animal advocacy, many of us choose to live a vegan lifestyle. That means ensuring that our companion animals can thrive on a cruelty-free diet as well.
As Jennifer Coates, DVM says, “It’s natural to wonder if a meat-free diet is a healthy choice for dogs.” And, she has some good news, “Dogs can thrive when eating a vegetarian or even a vegan diet.”
